Who We Are? Brief History and Overview of RTI Railroad Services

RTI Railroad Services was established in 1975 as a railroad service provider, specializing in the removal and disposal of used railroad ties and rail. RTI has developed a number of innovative products which has enabled it to become the pre-eminent service provider in the railroad tie removal and disposal industry. RTI founder, Charles R. Jacob, says that the strength to RTI’s success is its versatility and experience in working with the nation’s largest railroads. “We believe in making safety a number-one priority at RTI,” he said in a recent training program of organization-wide personnel.

RTI Railroad Services is also committed to keeping the environment safe. RTI has developed a number of methods to maximize the environmentally safe removal of used railroad ties and rail. Chief among these environmentally safe practices is shipping used railroad ties to co-generation plants. Co-generation plants burn used ties as a substitute for burning coal in producing energy.

Headquartered in Salt Lake City and American Fork, Utah, RTI Railroad Services also has regional offices in Anderson, California; Reno, Nevada; Portland, Oregon; and Rock Springs, Wyoming. RTI has worked with the Union Pacific, Burlington Northern, Amtrak, and Canadian National railroads, as well as the former Denver & Rio Grande Western, Santa Fe, and Southern Pacific railroads.
